A smooth-finished fiberglass interior liner makes the D-9 particularly attractive, and easy to keep clean. A pair of large, sealed buoyancy chambers extending along the port and starboard sides ensure that this boat will remain upright and float high enough to bail dry in the unlikely event of a swamping. (In contrast, many competing dinghies will float nearly awash if flooded, and cannot be bailed out in choppy conditions).

The D-9 is available as a basic version with built-in fiberglass rub-rails, or as a 'classic tender' with wooden rails and seats. An efficient sailing kit consisting of spars, sail, daggerboard, rudder and all necessary hardware is optional.
